On 23rd May pupils competed in the Mid Norfolk Area athletics championships at the UEA Sportspark. The event organised by the Northgate PE department saw athletes from six schools (Northgate, Neatherd, Litcham, Iceni Academy, Wayland Academy and Sacred Heart) compete to try and win a qualifying spot on the Mid Norfolk team for the Norfolk Schools County Finals being held again at the UEA on Saturday 9th June.

Northgate had a very successful afternoon with a large number of pupils winning their individual events, and many finishing in runners up places.

These successes all contributed to Northgate finishing first in four out of the eight age groups, and finishing runner up in one which culminated in Northgate ending the day as Overall event winners.

  • Winners – Year 9 Boys
  • Winners -Year 10 Boys
  • Winners Year 10 Girls

Throughout the day there were a number great individual and team performances from our athletes including some very special performances displaying great athletic ability in multiple events.

A very successful day at the track was finished off with Northgate winning 5 out of the 8 relays showing a great team effort as well as the individual success. The icing on the cake came with confirmation that 11 of our athletes (highlighted above) qualified to go through to represent Mid Norfolk at the Norfolk Schools County Final making up a large portion of the Mid Norfolk team! We wish them all good luck. Watch this space or check out the @Northgatesport twitter for further updates on their progress on the 9th June.
