We have a number of students at Northgate who play various sports at a high standard in their own time. Northgate’s Charlie Butler (Year 9) has played for Norfolk Badminton for a number of years now and he is currently in the U16 squad. He plays and trains four times a week and competes in tournaments most weekends.
Charlie has had lots of success winning the mixed doubles two weeks ago and also coming third in the doubles and singles competitions. The next day he went on to play for the Norfolk team, so it was a busy weekend!
Charlie has now been called up to play for the Norfolk squad many times over the years and on Saturday 24th February he won Gold in a bronze badminton England tournament in Ipswich in mixed doubles – his first national medal! The following day he then went to Lincolnshire and played a county game for Norfolk winning his singles matches and contributing to the Norfolk team being the eventual overall winners. Well done Charlie!
