In 2021 we started our support of the amazing charity Books2Africa whose mission is to promote culture and recycling of books to improve the quality of education in Africa. The charity ships books and educational materials to enable individuals to acquire knowledge and have access to ensure they can develop their potentiality in a globalised world.Â
We arranged a collection of books, and over 570 were donated by a variety of donors, including staff and students. These were then packaged and sent to a UK shipping centre. A big thank you to Caroline at Hadley and Ottaway Watton who provided the boxes and packaging free of charge.Â
We have also been able to fund a shipment of 1000 books direct to Africa. The destination and recipients of this will be updated at a later time via a further blog. This was a massive community effort and the money was raised via a non-uniform day and a French Café.
We would like to say a big thank you to all of the Northgate community who have been involved in our Books2Africa fundraising effort.Â
A special thank you also goes to the Prefects, Head Girl and Head Boy and Mrs Sutcliffe who spent many a lunchtime looking at how to launch, promote and make a success of what started out an idea and became a reality.
