A number of our staff at Northgate have the opportunity to visit primary schools throughout the year and work with their students and teachers in their particular subject area. Mrs Sutcliffe, from our Modern Foreign Languages Department, recently visited Hockering Primary School – here is what she has to say:

‘On Friday the 5th of July I had the chance of working with all the age ranges at Hockering Primary school on the theme of holidays- not that they are on my mind! The Year 1 and 2 pupils really embraced linking actions to words to support recall and I was amazed at how great they were at the word search. They loved it! I can only say a big thank you for their intrinsic enthusiasm and bravery in embracing the opportunity and introducing themselves in front of their peers in French.

Year 3 and 4 pupils were equally amazing with some high point scorers winning their raffle tickets on the ‘guess the word’ competition. Well done guys! Then I had a slightly longer session with Year 5 and 6 pupils. They were enthusiastic and focused and really embraced all the different methods for embedding the vocabulary. We also looked at story books and how we can use language through stories and pictures. They were able to see some books produced by our students at Northgate as well as browse some old favourites translated into French- I am going on a bear hunt…. Who could not love that! It was a really fabulous afternoon and I would like to say thank you to all the staff and pupils at Hockering Primary School for allowing me to join you for the afternoon.

Merci beaoucoup et bonnes vacances!’
