On the 13th October 2017, the Year 10 Textiles group went on a trip to the Alexandra Palace for the knitting and stitching show. Their website says, ‘Our Autumn show at the iconic Alexandra Palace is the biggest textile event in the UK, with hundreds of workshops, demonstrations, interactive features, professionally curated galleries, as well as 300 of our most loved exhibitors selling specialist craft supplies.’
When we got to the palace we could see the skyline of London’s famous buildings. As we entered the palace there was a corridor of Artist’s exhibits. As we entered the trade hall, there were loads of stalls that offered different materials and showed off new technology. We went round the trade hall and got inspiration from stalls that we could then use in our work. There were also chances for us to learn new skills, for example most of us learnt how to knit and have got examples of our work which will put into our sketchbooks.
As we looked round, we picked up any business cards and leaflets to add to our sketchbook work. In the artist exhibits we could see a wide range of techniques that different artists experimented with, this gave us inspiration as we can now try to use similar techniques in our work back at school.
Everyone who went on this trip can’t wait to experiment with the new techniques they have learnt, it was a day well spent. Thank you to the Art and Design Department for organising another great trip!
