Learning Hub
The Learning Hub, which is run by a full-time Co-ordinator, houses over 10,000 books. There are collections covering all subject areas and a large selection of fiction titles.
Pupils are introduced to the Learning Hub when they join Year 7 attending induction courses run by the Co-ordinator. It is open throughout the school day and is used by pupils during lesson time when supervised by a teacher and independently before school (except Wednesdays), break times and after school, when there is an extended opening time for the homework club on Tuesdays, Wednsedays and Thursdays.The facilities can be booked by teachers to use for whole class teaching especially when pupils need to research for a project.
The Lower School research project has been set up in partnership with Norfolk Schools’ Library Service, Children’s Services and Dereham Library. Special collections of books on subjects chosen for project work, in all subjects, are kept in the Learning Hub for use by Departments.
A Reading Club, for lower school pupils, runs weekly in the Learning Hub. Northgate shadows the Carnegie Award and takes part in activities with other secondary schools. Groups of pupils have taken part in events hosted and arranged by Norfolk Libraries Service.
Book sales are held in the Learning Hub throughout the year and author visits arranged by the Co-ordinator. Authors who have visited the school recently include Cathy Cassidy, Charlie Higson and William Hussey along with performance poet Ash Dickinson.
