The Library, which is run by a full-time Co-ordinator, houses over 10,000 books. There are collections covering all subject areas and a large selection of fiction titles.
Pupils are introduced to the Library when they join Year 7 attending induction courses run by the Co-ordinator.
The Library is open throughout the school day and is used by pupils during lesson time when supervised by a teacher and independently before school, break times and after school, when there is an extended opening time for the homework club on Tuesdays, Wednsedays and Thursdays. The facilities can be booked by teachers to use for whole class teaching especially when pupils need to research for a project.
A Reading Club, for lower school pupils, runs fortnightly in the Library. Northgate shadows the Carnegie Award and takes part in activities with other secondary schools. Groups of pupils have taken part in events hosted and arranged by Norfolk Libraries Service.
Book sales are held in the Library throughout the year and author visits arranged by the Co-ordinator. Authors who have visited the school include Cathy Cassidy, Charlie Higson and Matt Oldfield along with performance poet Ash Dickinson.
