Media Studies GCSE
Media Studies GCSE is offered as an option subject for study during Years 10 and 11. Students follow a two-year course, during which they explore and analyse a variety of media texts across a range of genres. In addition to the academic study of media theory, students also have the opportunity to create their own media production. Past examples include teenage photo stories, music videos, film trailers and television title sequences. This production, alongside two investigative research essays, is worth 60% of students’ final grade. A final examination, which makes up 40% of the final grade, gives students the opportunity to showcase their knowledge, both analytical and practical, of a specific media genre. This course gives a solid foundation for the study of Media in Further Education, with past students following the subject at Sixth Form and college.
