Northgate had a number of athletes that competed for Mid Norfolk in the Norfolk Schools County Finals on Saturday 9th June at the UEA after qualifying from the area competition. The Schools finals is a highly competitive event with large numbers of club athletes competing.
Just a bit of context from Mr Phillis – athletes compete in Under 15 and Under 17 categories. This means that you may have a Year 8 competing against an older Year 9 or a Year 10 competing against older Year 11 athletes in the same race/event.

Harvey with his winning medal
The best performance of the day was from Harvey (Year 9) who won the U15 boys 200m in a time of 25.5s and qualified to represent Norfolk at the Anglian Schools Championships later in the month.
Erin (Year 10) clocked 2mins 41.3s in the 800m and Femke (Year 10) ran a time of 45.5s in the 300m. Both qualified for the Anglian finals as runners up in their respective events. Erin also finished 3rd in her second event just missing out on a qualifying place in the U17 girls 1500m.
Other athletes that were competing but narrowly missed out on a qualifying place were:
- Brandon (Year 9) qualified for the final of the U15 Boys 300m in 2nd place but just missed out on a qualifying place in the final finishing 3rd with a time of 41.9s.
- Callum (Year 10) finished 3rd in the U17 boys 1500m and just missed out on a place in the final of the 400m finishing 4th in his heat by half a second with a time of 4mins 38.5s
- Jack (Year 8 ) also just missed out finishing 3rd in the Discus with a throw of 22.68m

These are great achievements from all our athletes. Being a smaller school they were extremely competitive to achieve these positions against athletes from much larger city schools, many of them City of Norwich club members. A huge congratulations to all the Northgate team who took part. We wish Harvey, Erin and Femke the best of luck in the Anglian Schools Championships and wait to hear how they get on!
