We are all aware of the news reports in recent months regarding concerns over plastic. At Northgate we are conscious of doing our bit to help the environment, particularly with recycling. This is why we have signed up to a scheme run by Terracycle and their partner BIC.
Northgate High School has been accepted as a collection point for the Writing Instruments Recycling Programme. We are a Bic Community Champion location which means we will have a collection box at school where any writing instruments (except for wooden pencils and chalk) are accepted. Any brand of pen, felt tip, highlighter, marker, correction fluid pot, correction tape, mechanical pencil and eraser pen are accepted.
There will be a box at Student Services, main reception and in the staff room for you to drop off your items and help with the recycling process. We will also being doing our bit for charity at the same time. Each time we get 15Kg of writing instruments, these are sent away to be recycled and we receive about £15 to be donated to a charity of our choice. Our chosen charity is Cancer Research UK.
So, when your pen runs out, don’t throw it in the bin, keep hold of it until you can get to one of the collection boxes. Bring in writing instruments from home to be recycled too. Terracycle can only accept one BIC Community Champion per community. Therefore we are the only one in Dereham. This is a great opportunity for Northgate and Dereham to do their bit to help the environment and recycle items we might normally throw away.
