Northgate High School warmly welcomed and hosted a visit on 18th January with a number of community representatives, with a view to looking at ways to improve an area where both students and residents cross Quebec Road. This initiative has been praised by Councillors and residents in the area. Mr MacDonald has provided invaluable support at the rear gate crossing on Quebec Road for 5 months, as a key role in the care and safeguarding of our students. Miss Theobald and the School Council have been instrumental in supporting this initiative and providing analysis of traffic data, which was presented in the meeting.

Members of the School Council with Mayor Hilary Bushell, Councillor Harry Clarke, Head of School Mr Mason and UET Trustee Michael Rose.

Councillor William Richmond , Mr Ben Rayner (Highways NCC) and Councillor Harry Clarke saw first-hand, the issues concerning the road in the morning as they joined Mr MacDonald, Miss Theobald and the School Council members Harry, Dee and Hannah. They were accompanied by Mr Mason (Head of School), Dr Tim Kinnaird (Chair of Governors) and Mr Michael Rose (Trustee UET) and trustees from Quebec Hall.

The visitors were then invited into school to continue with a productive meeting to discuss the possible improvements to road safety on Quebec Road. Mr Mason thanked the visitors on behalf of the school for their time and support, and for their interest in our school safety initiative around the crossing point, which will support the Staff and Students of Northgate High School, and our local residents.

Year 10 School Council members will be continuing with the road safety message, delivering an assembly to Year 7 and 8 students, giving advice about staying safe on the roads. Their presentation can be seen here (Road Safety Assembly) and will also be delivered in PART lesson to Year 9, 10 and 11 students.
