Northgate Recycles

beany brand of  We are passionate about doing what we can for the environment and recycling plays a big part in this.

We have joined forces with Terracycle UK for six different recycling programmes:

1) Crisp Packets (sponsored by Walkers Crisps): this scheme accepts empty crisp packets, including multi-pack wrapping but excludes crisp tubes. We have collection boxes in our main hall and in some classrooms. We are pleased to also have collection points at Morrisons in Dereham and Nationwide in Dereham. ENDED IN APRIL 2022.

2) Writing Instruments (sponsored by Bic): this scheme recycles dead pens, felt tips, markers, board pens, highlighters, mechanical pencils and correction fluid pens. All of our classrooms have dead pen pots in them and members of our Environment Team regularly collect the writing instruments to be sent away. We also have a collection point at Nationwide Building Society in Dereham, so the community can get collecting too. A number of local primary schools collect for this scheme as well.

3) Bread bags and Bakery plastic (sponsored by Warburtons): this scheme recycles bread bags and bakery plastics such as the packaging for wraps, teacakes, bagels, croissants etc. We can accept the plastic at Northgate or in the recycling boxes at Morrisons or Nationwide in Dereham.

4) Pringles Tubes (sponsored by Pringles): this scheme recycles any size of Pringles tube (not other brands). We can accept the Pringles tubes at Northgate or in the recycling boxes at Morrisons or Nationwide in Dereham.

5) Biscuit and Snacks wrappers (sponsored by GoAhead, Jacobs, Carrs and Mcvities): this scheme recycles non-savoury biscuit wrappers, cake wrappers and cracker wrappers. We can accept the plastic at Northgate or in the recycling boxes at Morrisons or Nationwide in Dereham.

6) Coffee Pouches (sponsored by Taylors of Harrogate): this scheme recycles any brand of ground coffee pouches, coffee bean pouches and flexible coffee packaging. We can accept the plastic at Northgate or in the recycling boxes at Morrisons or Nationwide in Dereham.

The collections are sent to Terracycle, sorted by plastic type and extruded into plastic pellets. New plastic items are then made such as benches. You can see what happens to the plastic once it is sent away by following this link:

We also collect print heads and ink cartridges to recycle with Think-Inks. Print heads, particularly Canon and HP, hold value and any money received will be used for future School Council eco projects at Northgate and Senate projects at Dereham Sixth Form. We have collection points at Nationwide in Dereham and Sowerbys in Dereham as well as Northgate and Dereham Sixth Form College.
