Children in Need is something we always look forward to at Northgate. It is one of the Social Team’s main events on their calendar and a great opportunity for students and staff to come together, have fun and raise money for a good cause at the same time. After raising over £1100 last year, it was a tough challenge to beat this.
The Social Team started planning the events a few weeks beforehand, making sure everyone was aware of what was happening through PART lesson, tweets and Facebook posts. Merchandise was bought and everyone was set for a great week of fundraising.
Social Team members sold Pudsey keyrings, wristbands, badges and Pudsey ears in PART and during break and lunch times. On Thursday we held the very popular cake sale, with a whole range of goodies on offer including muffins, cupcakes, lemon drizzle, chocolate cake, shortbread, cookies, rocky road and more. At one point you could hardly move in GG2 due to the popularity of the baked goods. The cake sale continued at lunch time with only a small amount left to sell on Children in Need day. The cakes and biscuits managed to raise a fantastic £255.
On Friday we held a themed clothes day with students encouraged to wear colours from the spots on Pudsey’s bandana – red, yellow, green or blue. The school was a sea of colour with red being the popular colour of choice. Finally, lunch time saw the eagerly anticipated ‘beat the goalie’ with Mr Carter, Mr Malin, Mr Jones and Mr Lea bravely stepping up into goal, ready to have the footballs pelted at them. The odd save was made but a large number of shots hit the back of the net.
Altogether Northgate raised £1430.74 for Children In Need – great effort all round!
