Dee, Year 10, recently attended a dementia friendly training course at Northgate. She tells us about Northgate’s connection to Dementia Friendly Dereham.
‘A group of Year 10’s were asked in June if they wanted to go on a dementia friendly training course. Two ladies came in from Dementia Friendly Dereham to deliver the course. It was very interesting and a game of dementia bingo improved our knowledge.
We were also chosen to represent a dementia friendly garden at the Royal Norfolk Show with Mr MacDonald. We helped Mr MacDonald with the knowledge and were a part of constructing the garden. The judges were very impressed with the work put into it and the knowledge behind it so we got full points and we were awarded gold for the garden. None of this would have happened without all of the effort that Mr MacDonald put in, even in his spare time!

All of this training has been all going towards visits to Eckling Grange with Mrs Galley next year. Eckling Grange is a dementia friendly care home in Dereham that we will be visiting regularly and spending time with the residents.
In the last couple of weeks of school Northgate are having some fundraising days where some of the proceeds will be going to Dementia Friends. There is also a donation button online where parents and carers can donate too. Please help us raise as much money as we can!’
