We have so many talented sports people at Northgate and have had a number of successes in recent competitions. Mr Phillis, Head of PE, tells us about recent competitions in angling, football and athletics.
WNDSSP Angling Competition
Ten pupils (Logan, Charlie, Connor W, Max, Ryan, Jamie, Jack, Will, Connor H and Harvey) competed in the West Norfolk and Dereham School Sports Partnership Angling event held at Barford Lakes. In a slight change to previous year’s competitions, pupils were fishing individually to try and reel in the biggest catch of the day. The anglers were aiming to get in to the top six in order to secure their place at the Norfolk School Games finals in June.
The pupils had varying success with Year 7 pupil Charlie landing the biggest catch securing his place with a catch of 7lb 13oz. Well done to all the competitors.
Year 8 Schools Cup
Northgate’s Year 8 football team had a successful end to the season winning the league finals beating Attleborough 4-3 (a hat trick by Dylan and one from Man of the match Bailey) after an end to end battle that went right up to the last minute of the game. The team were invited to take part in a Schools tournament organised by the students at Dereham Education Soccer Academy (DESA). The final game came down to a local derby against Neatherd on the main pitch at Aldiss Park. A competitive match saw the game finish 2-2 at the end of extra time which meant the spoils would be decided via penalties. Northgate kept their nerve to net four of their five penalties with Blazei slotting home the winning goal to give Northgate the victory 4-3 after penalties. Man of the match was awarded to Alfie R for his unrelenting defensive performance. A huge well done to all the boys for a great season.
