The Northgate Learning Cycle

Learning in our classrooms follows the Northgate Learning Cycle, which underpins our entire curriculum. This was developed out of Sweller’s ‘Cognitive Load Theory’, a research based model which allows students to build up ‘Core’ knowledge and application of skills much sooner. This approach means that pupils quickly develop their ability to learn more independently, and therefore builds confidence in their ability to succeed.

All schemes of work, homework and classroom practice have been built around this. Examples of can be found on the subject specific pages of our website.
