Rose, Year 9, tells us about a recent trip encouraging girls and young women to consider careers in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).
‘On 21st June a group of 14 Year 9 girls went on a trip, led by Mrs Simms, to Cambridgeshire to an event called Women in Engineering. It was an interesting event because we all got to see different career paths and different uses of engineering.
There were lots of different stalls there, including one by Phillips where there was a race to see who could make a dummy the quickest. Unfortunately none of us won. Phillips were not the only company there with interactive exhibits though, for example EDF Energy had two virtual reality (VR) headsets, which when you looked through them showed you how energy is made.
There were multiple guest speakers there who talked about their experiences of getting into engineering which inspired everyone in the room. All in all, the day was very inspiring and enjoyable for everyone that went and we all had an excellent day! Thank you to Mrs Simms for organising the trip.
