Have a Heart: Lend a Hand
Northgate High school are appealing to the Dereham community to ‘lend a hand’ and join them in their quest to break a world record. The aim is to beat the current record of 1,401 handprints on a single work of art in an hour so the old adage ‘Many hands make light work’ will certainly need to be employed on the 22nd July.
Dereham Carnival are supporting the record breaking attempt which is to take place in the Main Arena from 4.30pm to 5.30pm, although those participating will need to gather at the Main Arena from 4pm to ensure a prompt start to the handpainting.
Maureen Mottley, Head of the Arts faculty at Northgate said, ‘The artwork will comprise of a huge heart, made up of the handprints from people in the Dereham community and surrounding areas. Dereham is in the very heart of Norfolk and the people in the community are at the heart of the Carnival, so what better place to attempt a world record and show the community how much we care and what we can achieve if we pull together.’
Tickets are £1 a handprint, with proceeds going to Dementia Friends and the Student council. Tickets are available from Reception at the school and at Dereham Sixth Form Centre, Crown Rd, Dereham.
Dereham Carnival Committee would like to wish them every success and we can’t wait to see the amazing piece of art they create.
