On Saturday the PE department took a small group of Year 11s on a trip to the All England Lawn Tennis club to spectate at Wimbledon 2018.  Northgate were awarded tickets through the schools ballot system and the opportunity was offered to the students as a reward for all their hard work over the GCSE PE course. Court 2 was our base for the day and we were treated to a number of great matches. Students watched Argentina’s Juan Martin Del Potro beat the Frenchman Benoit Paire to progress into the fourth round. The second match on court was the ladies third round match between Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova and Belgian Elise Mertens which saw Cibulkova beat Mertens in straight sets (6-2 and 6-2). The final game was the one everyone was waiting for – Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares against Matt Ebden (AUS) and Taylor Fritz (GER).  At least we got to see one Murray play this year.

However, everyone was still keeping their eye on the biggest game of the day….no not England v Sweden, Kyle Edmund against Novak Djokovic on Centre Court. Unfortunately, after taking the first set the experience of Djokovic was just too much for Edmund. A great day was had by all.
