Open Evening Information
We will be releasing more information in the coming weeks! Keep an eye on this page and our social media.
There are two possible times to listen to the Headteachers’ and students’ address, 5:30pm or 7:00pm. To support social distancing, we are restricting the number that can attend each presentation to a maximum of 150 people.
We are now fully booked for these addresses, however we would still like to welcome you to tour the school between 5:30 and 8:30pm
A recording of the Headteachers’ and students’ address will be made available after the event.

Rewards and the School Council
At Northgate, we run a rewards scheme, put together by the School Council, which allows students to cash in merits received.
Merits can be awarded by staff for a variety of reasons including effort in class, smart uniform, representing the school and being a good Northgate citizen.
Students then have the opportunity to exchange their merits for a reward. There are a large variety of rewards on offer, including stationery, art equipment and Cafe North vouchers. The 2020-21 Rewards Catalogue can be viewed below.
All students have the opportunity to become a member of our School Council, and work with staff to make Northgate the best that it can be.
There are 4 School Council Teams which meet on a fortnightly basis:
- Social Team
- Well-Being Team
- Environment Team
- Northgate News
Members of our School Council have been involved in a number of special projects over the last few years, including recycling schemes and fundraising days.
The Northgate Learning Cycle
Learning in our classrooms follows the Northgate Learning Cycle, which underpins our entire curriculum. This was developed out of Sweller’s ‘Cognitive Load Theory’, a research based model which allows students to build up ‘Core’ knowledge and application of skills much sooner. This approach means that pupils quickly develop their ability to learn more independently, and therefore builds confidence in their ability to succeed.
All schemes of work, homework and classroom practice have been built around this. Examples of can be found on the subject specific pages of our website.
