At the end of the year, Year 9 students were given a challenge: to build the tallest tower using just straws and cellotape.  However, there was a catch. The tower also had to hold a 180g bag of Haribo, but students were not allowed to test their tower during the lesson. Split into House teams in each class there were certainly a number of different approaches taken. Triangles seemed to be the most common approach due to their strength.

The teams had 45 mins to plan and build their tower before testing commenced. Each tower was measured and then the bag of Haribo carefully placed on top to see if it would hold. Despite some towers looking a little unsteady, a good number of them held the sweets successfully. Points were awarded in each class – 4 points for a win, 3 for 2nd and so on.

The overall results were as follows:

1st – Rowling

2nd – Hawking

3rd – Attenborough

4th – Holmes
