A number of our teachers at Northgate deliver sessions to other teachers from schools across the country, passing on their experience and knowledge in their curriculum area.
Mr Everett, Head of Modern Languages at Northgate, travelled up to Sheffield in January to give a talk to teachers from 30 schools across Yorkshire. The presentation was a practical workshop on techniques to develop pupils’ speaking and writing for the new Modern Foreign Languages GCSE. The evening saw teachers working in a different language to the one they teach, developing stories and speaking more and more spontaneously. If you are in the Year 10 Spanish class, some of your stories about going to the beach and having unfortunate accidents involving jellyfish or seagulls were used as model answers!
Mr Everett tells us that the Yorkshire Branch of the Association for Language Learning have been asking him for several years to think about leading a session, after the Chair attended a talk he gave at the Languages World National Conference. Many of the teachers attending know Mr Everett’s work from conferences or from using his textbooks published by Oxford University Press. His next talk is in London in February at the annual Linguascope Conference.
